About Poemas y Café

MSC CAMAC

SHARED EXPERIENCES:

The poetry pieces were beautiful! Very intense!

This is one of my favorite events of the year! As a member of the community, I feel discussion our identify is crucial because it gives us the opportunity to see just how similar our experiences might have been.

Truly, a lovely event. I will definitely attend it again next year and make sure to bring more friends!

Join MSC CAMAC for our signature Hispanic Heritage Month event, Poemas Y Café!

The program will incorporate two pieces of slam poetry: ‘Afro-Latina’ by Elizabeth Acevedo and ‘My Blood is Beautiful’ by Mercedez Holtry. These poems provide the program’s theme of identity; specifically, those Latinx identities which exist on the cusp of different cultures. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore their personal identities within the context of their cultural backgrounds, experiences and values, then go on to express these identities through poetry. Conversation will be shared within small groups and participants are encouraged to bring their favorite beverage and snack to accompany the discussion.

    • Date & Time: October 28th at 7:00-8:30 p.m.
