Dia de los Muertos
Day of the Dead
Friday, November 2nd
MSC Flag Room, MSC
7:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M.
Dia de Los Muerto is a day to celebrate, remember and prepare special foods
in honor of those who have departed. On this day in Mexico, the streets near the
cemeteries are filled with decorations of papel picado, flowers, candy
calaveras (skeletons and skulls), and parades. It is believed that the spirit of
the dead visits their families on October 31st and leave on November 2nd. The
celebration of this day is to make death more of a welcoming and not so much
something to be afraid of.
CAMAC is hosting the celebration of Dia de Los Muertos to give those who
know what Dia de Los Muertos is and opportunity to celebrate it and honor their lost loved one.
It is also a chance to inform other students and Bryan/College Station residents
of what Dia is and to give them an experience of what this celebration means in
Mexican and Mexican American culture.
This event will include speakers: Ernesto Mejia Marenco, Amanda Fulk, and Melanie Loew. free Mexican food, as
well as alters for previous Revellies.
CAMAC encourages you to bring photos of any past loved ones to post on the
altars.
This Event is being Co-Sponsored by the MSC Visual Arts Committee |
